KazTransOil JSC has completed the construction of a chemical and analytical laboratory at the B. Zhumagaliev oil pumping station

KazTransOil JSC has completed the construction of one of its key infrastructure facilities — a chemical and analytical laboratory at the B. Zhumagaliev Head Oil Pumping Station. The implementation of this project holds strategic importance for strengthening quality control of oil transported via the Pavlodar–Shymkent main oil pipeline to the PetroKazakhstan Oil Products LLP (PKOP) refinery and the Atasu oil pumping station.

The establishment of the laboratory was driven by the need for prompt analysis of the physico-chemical characteristics of oil, including density, water content, organochlorine compounds, sulfur, and other parameters. This is particularly crucial for oil transportation in two directions:

  • B. Zhumagaliev Head Oil Pumping Station – Atasu Oil Pumping Station (export direction via the Atasu–Alashankou main oil pipeline);
  • B. Zhumagaliev Head Oil Pumping Station – Chulak-Kurgan Oil Pumping Station (to the PKOP refinery).

In addition, the process of determining oil quality during the monthly inventory of oil stock will be optimized, and it will be possible to maintain a Quality Bank for oil transported along the Pavlodar–Shymkent pipeline section between Atasu, B. Zhumagaliev, and Chulak-Kurgan oil pumping stations.

Currently, oil sample analysis is performed at the chemical and analytical laboratory at the Kumkol Oil Pumping Station, located 200 km from the station. With the opening of the new in-house laboratory at the B. Zhumagaliev station, there will no longer be a need to transport samples over long distances, which will significantly improve the responsiveness and efficiency of oil quality control.

The completion of this new facility creates seven new jobs. In the near future, commissioning works will be carried out, staff will be trained to operate the new equipment, and metrological certification procedures will be conducted.
