Batumi Oil Terminal Demonstrates High Level of Safety and Emergency Preparedness

 16.06.2025    68

A scheduled emergency response drill was successfully conducted in the area where the technological pipeline of LLC «Batumi Oil Terminal» (BOT) passes near residential neighborhoods. The exercise simulated an oil spill from a 700 mm diameter pipeline.

The main goal of the drill was to refine the coordinated actions of personnel in a potential emergency situation — from emergency notification and halting the technological process to the rapid deployment of response teams and the elimination of the simulated incident. In addition, a first aid module was practiced with the participation of the terminal’s on-duty medical staff.

Prior to the scheduled drill, all residents of nearby areas were duly informed, and all preparatory activities were organized in strict accordance with existing safety regulations and standards.

The exercise involved more than 30 units of equipment, including truck-mounted cranes, pumping systems, mobile power stations, and fire suppression tools, as well as over 30 employees. Participants included the maintenance and mechanical service, emergency response units, the oil spill response team, the fire brigade, security personnel, and medical staff.

Such drills have become a consistent practice at BOT and are conducted on a regular basis. Special attention is given to coordination with the local population in emergency scenarios — to ensure a joint, prompt, and effective response. This approach helps foster a high level of trust and safety. The results of all drills are mandatorily communicated to local executive authorities.

The inspection confirmed that the terminal is fully prepared to respond effectively under any emergency conditions. BOT stands as a reliable, safe, and resilient component of international logistics infrastructure, fully compliant with modern standards and requirements.
