«KazTransOil» JSC liquidated the consequences of an illegal tapping in «Atasu-Alashankou» main oil pipeline in Karaganda region

On June 17, there was an oil spill as a result of an unauthorized tapping at 300.6 km of «Atasu – Alashankou» main oil pipeline owned by «Kazakhstan-China Pipeline» LLP (a joint venture of «KazTransOil» JSC and CNODC). 40 workers and 18 units of special equipment of Karaganda and Usharalsk Oil Pipeline Departments of the Eastern Branch of «KazTransOil» JSC and «Kazakhstan-China Pipeline» LLP were involved in the repair and renewal operations within the period from 17 to 19 June. The repair works were finalized on June 19, and at 05.11 a.m. (Astana time) oil pumping through «Atasu – Alashankou» oil pipeline was resumed, oil-contaminated ground and oil spills were eliminated. The amount of damage caused to the environment and «Kazakhstan-China Pipeline» LLP from rupturing the pipeline is to be confirmed. «KazTransOil» JSC is the subsidiary of «KazMunayGas» NC JSC and the national operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the main oil pipeline. The company manages a network of main oil pipelines stretching over 5,6 thousand km and water pipelines over 1,9 thousand km long. The production facilities of «KazTransOil» JSC are located in Karaganda, Pavlodar, South Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Mangistau, West Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Almaty, Aktobe and East Kazakhstan regions. «Atasu – Alashankou» oil pipeline is a part of Kazakhstan - China oil pipeline system. Since its commissioning in 2006 and till the end of 2014, 75.8 million tons of oil (2.2 million tons in 2006, 11.8 million tons in 2014) were transported.
